With its culture of fishing, boat-building, agriculture, weaving as well as its laid-back lifestyle, it is known as a prime resort hot sport and center for yachting in Turkey for those who intend to cruise along the Aegean and Mediterranean waters.
Aside from this, the region is famous for the cultural heritage of its people. For example, the village Mumcular is famous for its carpets, kilims and other weavings. Visitors can see reliefs and status from the mauseloum at The British Museum.

A walked through the main street called Republic Street (Cumhurriyet Caddesi (Republic Street) reminds one of the myriad options awaiting the visitor exploring Bodrum. Local creations handcrafted and passed on from generation to generation can be found alongside more modern Turkish wares such as attractive onyx, copper and brassware, along with toy camels, and gold harem slippers.
Visitors are encouraged to end the day by trying over a meal, a light aniseed flavoured national drink Raki or locally produced wine for a truly rustic experience.
