Gumusluk

Gumusluk in the Bodrum region of Turkey’s south west corner is prime holiday destination whose foundations rise on the grounds of the ancient city of Myndos. An earthquake made sections of the city slide into the sea.
The city’s name Gumusluk comes from the root, “gümüs,” meaning the Turkish word for silver. This harks back to the histories of Mydus when the city used to be powerful enough to mine and mint its own silver coins.
It is no surprise that within the limits of the Gumusluk city are reminders and ruins of the glorious historical past of the Turkish people. Snorklers are attracted the under-sea ruins for a peep into ancient civilization. In 2006 archaeologists have uncovered walls with colorful and intricate mosaic inlay.

The city has wonderful on-shore breezes that cool down sunny Gumusluk with the most temperate and mild climate in the entire Bodrum region. Its spring brings the verdant hills and valleys into bloom as well as a delicate scent of citrus blossoms throughout the countryside. The tangerine orchards line the side of the roads making for a beautiful picture.

The wonderful shelter of the bay provides a natural harbor for yachts and local fishing boats. Be at the coasts to cheer on participants to the annual yachting event called the Bodrum Cup that races on the bay of Gumusluk.
The magical charm of the bay area is also because of its reputation as a historical site—there is a constant balance of development and cultural heritage preservation valued by the local government.
The idyllic settings invite adventurous visitors to head over to Rabbit Island for rock jumping on its many diverse rock formations and soak in the panoramic view.

For those more inclined towards the waters, there are the natural rock pools at the farthest corner of the bay for restful warm water therapy, opportunities for fishing at the harbour come dusk, or playing backgammon with the locals over a cool Efes beer by the beachside.

Guests are invited to sample the famous fish and seafood dishes that are known by Turks all over the country at the restaurants that line the beach, or even the fresh stuffed mussels from the mussel vendor on the beach.
