Turgutreis

The water-front Mediterranean town of Turgutreis is the second largest town on the Bordrum peninsula located in the southern part of Turkey.

Named after local son, an acclaimed Turkish admiral Turgut Reis who led expeditions on European coasts and Nroth Africa, the modern town with a breathtaking marina is the epitome of harmony with modern development and natural beauty.

Groves of olives and citrus fruit line the streets, and just outside of the town limits is a waterfront memorial with the admiral’s statue, marking the place where he first set sail on his many explorations.

Crystal blue waters of Turgutreis are dotted with fantastic island getaways for the discriminating visitors—with something for everyone, a short ferry boat ride away. These are Catal Island, Yassı Island, Topan Island, Coban Island, Tulluce Island and Sarıot Island are some of Turkish Islands,Kos (Istanköy) and other Greek islands are some of the neighbour islands.

In particular, guests are invited to visit Yassı Island which is the site of the first underwater archaeological discoveries made: an ancient trade ship hiding quietly for centuries under the waters.

Popular tourist resort, Akyarlar is one of largest coves in the area, and is a perfect place for the windsurfing enthusiast.

The Huseyin Point Lighthouse, built in the 1930’s by the French on Akyarlar way is located in a lovely isolated beach area called Sand Land, perfect for soaking up the sun in a relaxed atmosphere.

This flourishing town is known for its commercial activities with produce from nearby villages collected for transportation to the rest of the country. In fact, guests are invited to visit the weekly Saturday farmers market and bazaar at Turgutreis where the freshest local produce, fruits and vegetables, are sold by the growers themselves on the day they were picked and nearby at the bazaar there a million curios and treasures waiting to be explored.
