Yalikavak
The gorgeous seaside vistas of Yalikavak in Turkey make it a perfect location for a holiday getaway—recognized by even the most discriminating Turks.
Famous for its sandy beaches, Yalikavak has also been one of the most important fishing centers on the Turkish Aegean. Home to fleets of fishermen and sponge divers, majority of locals still mine the treasures of the sea as their ancestors did.
Alongside its roots as a fishing town, the city’s gorgeous marina is spectacular in design as it houses yachts and fishing boats side-by-side on the mouth of the bay. Strong winds prevail, making it a sought after location for windsurfing, while the facilities invite enthusiasts to dive and sail. The restaurants in the town center and on the sea front attract many locals and tourists from the various corners of Bodrum Peninsula.
Yalikavak is also the home of Meditteranean seals as a protected species worldwide.
The ancient roots of Yalıkavak are evident, with ruins, archaeological sites, tombstones, stone homes and city walls that seem to have been frozen in time. Preserving the characteristics of Yalikavak’s ancient architectural marvels adds to the charm of the town. Most of the fountains and cisterns for example have been preserved with modern uses such as transformed galleries after restoration was completed.
Guests are invited to take a trip into the Carian cave tomb as proof of the city’s historic past. Carved directly into the rock and fronted with cut stones, the tomb once contained a funerary urn in the shape of a ship's prow.
