Kalkan

A little off the beaten path, the region hugs the harbour at the foot of the Taurus Mountains. The main town located in the hills looks over onto the horizon and sees the shimmering waters of the boats that traverse the bay and dock in the area. The road to the village is a winding one with views of the coast and the dazzling blue sea.
Kalkan village feature unique architecture in the form of the whitewashed Ottoman houses that perch on the hillside lining the narrow, twisting cobbled alleys that lead to the sea and the harbour. Small shops and cafes serving traditional Turkish fare that capitalizes on the sea’s fresh bounty, alternate with the eggshell colored villas on the streets, with typical timber balconies that ground the crawling bougainvilaea flower and vines.
Nearby Kalamar Bay is a wonderful choice for a wide variety of water sports.
The region is also an ideal place from which delve into the ancient past of the Turkish peoples, as the take-off point to explore the nearby archaeological sites including the Lycian ruins at Patara, Letoon and Xanthos. A trip to the ancient citadel city of Tlos is also highly recommended.
