Datca
Located in the part of Turkey where the Aegean Seas meet the Mediterranean the village of Datca (Cnidus) is home to a spectacular panorama of its many coves and bays on the southwest coast.
In the heart between the well-known holiday centers Marmaris, Bodrum and the Greek islands of Rhodes and Kos, the peninsula has retained its own charming characteristics. In the horizon rises meters and meters of pine and eucalyptus forests, with hillside roads filled with olive, fig, orange, lemon, tree groves, grape vineyards, as well as many small scale fruit and vegetable farms.
The climate combines low humidity with the cooling sea breezes for a pleasant place for a sea side holiday and frolicking. The fresh air makes Datca (Cnidus) a very healthy place to live in, said to be ideal for those afflicted with circulatory and nervous ailments, and possibly the reason why most ancient medical schools known to man were established in this region.
The varied nature of the Datca peninsula is not only a place for health and rejuvenation but also an ideal place for active visitors with a choice of water sports, including wind surfing, sailing and scuba diving to occupy most enthusiasts’ time. The beach in Datca-Center has a famous natural healing freshwater spring that attracts guests from all over, with its relaxing waters at slightly warmer temperatures than seawater for a truly leisurely dip.
The other areas of Datca off the beaten road are quiet and peaceful as well. But those wanting lively activity interacting with the locals are invited to visit the lively yacht harbour with its various range of boats moored there. Right on the harbour front are the shops, restaurants and cafes. While on Friday and Saturdays, Datca’s public market place comes alive.
The more ancient part of the town, Old Datca (Dadya, Eski Datca) has a slew of wonderfully old stone houses as well as summer homes that exhibit the typical architecture of the region.
